It’s no surprise but England coach, Fabio Capello, has confirmed that, as long as the team is under is stewardship, John Terry will never again be the captain. The whole thing started after Terry had an affair with the mother of fellow defender Wayne Bridge’s son.

I’m sure you can imagine how tense this has made things on the squad which is clearly undesirable leading up to the World Cup. Bridge refused to even shake Terry’s hand before Saturday’s match against Chelsea.

“I asked for the captain to set an example for the young people — for the children and the fans,” Capello said. “What he did was not good. I told him this and he understood, but I took the decision only because of what happened with Wayne Bridge, nothing else. I didn’t ever consider taking John Terry out of the squad and I don’t believe the other players will have lost respect for him. To me, being a leader is more important than being the captain. John Terry is a leader. I have asked him to be the same. He will be the same. He will still be a leader without wearing the armband.”

“Until the World Cup, John Terry will not be the captain again,” said Capello. “After the World Cup? If I remain as England manager? I think not.”

Capello is expected to be with the club until the 2012 European Championship.

John Terry has been having all sorts of personal drama, leaving him an easy target for the tabloids. It shouldn’t come as a big surprise that coach Fabio Capello has stripped him of the England captaincy and has replaced him with Rio Ferdinand.

The drama is mostly surrounding Terry’s alleged affair with England teammate Wayne Bridge’s former girlfriend.

"After much thought, I have made the decision that it will be best for me to take the captaincy away from John Terry," Capello said in a statement. "As a captain with the team, John Terry has displayed extremely positive behaviour. However, I have to take into account other considerations and what is best for all of the England squad. What is best for all of the England team has inspired my choice."

In a show of solidarity in the months leading up to the World Cup, Terry said: "I fully respect Fabio Capello’s decision. I will continue to give everything for England."

It’s the right thing to do, really. With the World Cup coming up, the team doesn’t need this distraction. I’m glad that Terry was mature about the situation since that shows that he puts the needs of the team ahead of his own.

John Terry, who is normally in the spotlight for being the captain of England’s national soccer team, is gaining attention for a less desirable reason – his alleged affair with another woman.

Terry is a married man with two children so it’s no surprise that he tried to make sure that his private life be protected from public scrutiny but a High Court judge lifted a court order that prevented the media from reporting allegations about Terry’s infidelity.

It’s interesting to me that celebrities or high profile athletes expect to have their privacy protected when a regular person would not be afforded that sort of luxury (unless they were a minor or in very, very specific situations).

Terry was named “Dad of the Year” by a condiments company last year and was doing some serious work on improving his image. While I don’t condone infidelity, I seriously don’t see why people are so surprised when this sort of story breaks. I mean, these are rich, attractive, popular professional athletes who travel all the time and have women throwing themselves at them. If Terry got his other balls handled, what does it really matter (unless you’re his wife, of course!)?
